Southern Hospitality

A new chandelier in the breakfast room is a welcome update, while roman shade valances add decoration to the bay window area.

With each decorating challenge I try to think, “what traits does my client exemplify, and how can their home display their personality?”

When my client and long-time friend asked me to spruce up her home, her reputation for overflowing hospitality immediately came to mind.

A Bedroom Rennovation – Before and After

When my client approached me about rennovating her master bedroom, we had just finished the downstairs guestroom. In both bedrooms, the room housed oriental rugs that the client wanted to use. In our first meeting about the master bedroom, a scheme that was designed around her oriental rug was presented. It was slightly darker than she was thinking so we immediatley changed our course. Still Having Fun…40 Years Later!

When I looked at the calendar and realized it was my turn to write a blog post, I was stunned.  Oh my gosh!  January 2014.  My 40th  anniversary at Pulliam Morris.  40 YEARS!!  How could it be?  How has the time passed so quickly?  I can’t possibly have worked here that long.  Yet, here I am…getting ready to start another year and making long range plans.

There is a lot to be said for 40 years of experience.  I have had wonderful and varied projects in my career.  Large and small.  Simple and complicated.  Some lasted for three years and some a very short time.  Many are out of town jobs.  Some of my best experiences have been with other architects and builders who all bring their own expertise.  Together, we form a team to complete the job at hand.  The clients I have worked with are always the best part.  New friends.

I began my career as an assistant to my uncle, Jack Pulliam, and one of the first houses I worked on was for the Baker family.  The house was sold recently, and just before Christmas, I met with the new owners of that same house to begin planning a renovation.  40 years later, and I am back to the beginning.  I can’t think of a better way to kick off the next 40!  It sure has been fun.  Looking forward to more!!
