1970′s Resort Home Remodel
January 8, 2015 | Posted by: Linda Perrow

When I was asked to assist with a “face lift” renovation at a Hilton Head resort home recently, I was pleased to see the classic island architecture style of the 1970′s. The owner wanted to keep the basic structure of the spaces the same, with only cosmetic changes where deemed necessary. She was interested in bringing some of her artwork from her home in Spartanburg, South Carolina to mix with some of the existing furnishings.

Removing faded grasscloth and replacing it with a clean off-white paint color, helped to make the copper hood for the fireplace become the focal point of the living room.

We decided to keep many of the same architectural elements, including the mirrored wall in the dining room.

New paint and an updated chandelier help to update the space. The subtraction of brass accessories and the addition of ceramic pottery ones helped to update the look.

Adding natural woven fiber rugs in the study and dining room gave the rooms a casual sophistication.

Replacing the old master king headboard with a new upholstered, higher headboard changed the room to a much more pleasing space.
