How High to Hang a Chandelier
November 6, 2012 | Posted by: PM Team

One of the top questions we get asked: How high to do I hang my dining room chandelier?

Response: As a general rule, hang the bottom tip of a chandelier 36” above the dining room table. Adjusting a few inches up or down as looks best with your room size, ceiling height, and style of fixture is perfectly fine. Those elements make every situation different; do what pleases your eye! (If you just can’t decide, we’re here to help.) And remember, no matter what, be sure the chandelier you are hanging is the right size and shape for the room.

This chandelier is hung a little higher than 36”, to keep from blocking the outside view.

In this dining room with 9’ ceilings, the chandelier was hung at a standard 36” above the table.

Because of the tray ceiling, this three-tiered chandelier is hung a little higher than 36” off the table.
