Have we really been working on this together for almost 30 years?
My client and I had a laugh over how time has flown and how trends have changed. Considering an extensive (and overdue) makeover, we traveled from room to room as we inventoried each piece of furniture, recounting which year and which house each piece was purchased. Sofa from the ’80′s. Chairs from the ’90′s. You get the idea.
While still classic and traditional, it was time for a fresher look – more casual, approachable, soothing to the eye. It’s a good trend. Just like fashion, the “classics” often vary in color and style just to keep things current. And sometimes, it’s simply the combination of things that either “date” or “update” a room.
Almost every existing fabric shown is still available and we considered keeping some of them (like the green Brunschwig & Fils floral), simplifying everything around it. But in the end, it seemed time to wipe the slate clean and embrace a whole new look.
