Recently a client contacted us wanting to update the bedrooms in her home. She and her husband are now empty nesters and it was definitely time to transform these rooms from the childhood bedrooms to more “grown up” guest rooms. She wanted to keep all of her existing furniture – mostly inherited traditional pieces. The childhood paraphernalia was boxed up and old toys donated.
New coverlets, draperies, lamps and chair fabrics did a lot to transform these two guest rooms into elegant accommodations.

An updated color palette of aqua and brown is classic and calming.
We stripped both bedrooms of the old wallpaper and removed the dated valances over the windows. Elegant drapery hardware, mounted close to the crown molding accentuates the tall windows and lets in abundant natural light.
Even with all the updates, childhood memories have not totally disappeared – a stuffed puppy and doll find homes on the bed and chair, fond reminders of many happy years in this house.

We rearranged the furniture, taking advantage of the spacious room, and selected a color palette of spring green and poppy red add to personality to this guest bedroom.

There is now a cozy reading nook for guests.
