Artistic people seem to always be looking, dreaming or imagining new creative opportunities. It is part of our DNA and it never stops. We keep a mental inventory of ideas and inspirations-always hoping for the perfect application.
I find it very gratifying to see an idea, something I have always wanted to try, become a functional and attractive reality. This mountain house kitchen island provided such a case. I have always loved built-in eating areas-for their function and practicality. For this one, however, I was determined to include the plumbing.

To provide the kitchen sink with a faucet, the plumbing was pulled up through the floor, cabinet and granite. A wall-mounted faucet was installed on the side of the custom table.

The bar-height table, which runs perpendicular with the island, was built by the cabinet maker. It was then stained, distressed and glazed for an aged appearance. The rustic barstools tie in the wood finish as well as the cabinet color.
