Books, Built-Ins and Banana Bark

How do you go about giving a room depth, detail, and architectural interest when it’s just a sheet rock box?

Having recently added a keeping room off my kitchen, I had to tackle that dilemma for myself. With the fireplace in my outdoor room  just a small courtyard away, I did not want another one inside. Something needed to be done to anchor the furniture and give the room character.

A Dark Master Bedroom Gets An Airy Update

Before the makeover, the master bedroom was cold and boring.

We recently finished a master bedroom for a client in the Upstate –  twice in the last year, the bathroom on the second level had flooded this main-level master bedroom, and it was in dire need of some attention!

Some pillows our client had found with their green, aqua, and brown embroidery became the starting point for the new scheme. Since the previous scheme was green, we decided to feature the aqua and brown tones in the new room. The coverlet, dustruffle, and other pillow fabrics fell into place easily, but it was a challenge to find a drapery fabric that would pull everything together.

Building a house involves several phases. After working on all the details of the interior elements, the fun part, furnishing the spaces is next. In this stage, the interior really comes together. It’s an exciting process to meet with the client and select the right pieces to complete the project.
