A Fresh New Look
September 29, 2014 | Posted by: lhough

Recently I had a client ask if we could give her formal living room a fresh new look. The living room had not been used very often but hosting her bridge club sparked a facelift. We started with the idea of using more neutral upholstery with pops of color. Her room, full of beautiful antiques and an old oriental rug was “old and tired” as she described it.

We decided to remove the camelback sofa and replace it with a loveseat from her den that we recovered. Because the existing loveseat height was a bit low for my client, our upholsterer replaced the legs of the loveseat with taller ones, lengthened the skirt, giving the loveseat a new and more comfortable place to sit. The wing chair, French chair and Martha Washington chair were all covered in beautiful textures.

By removing the buttons, raising the seat height and recovering with a new fabric, the loveseat looks fresh and updated.

We removed the floral swags and jabots and added linen drapery panels with an elegant braid. My client wanted to allow as much light into the living room as possible so the panels were installed on the far side of each window. This allowed more light in her living room as well as space to display artwork in between the windows. The sofa pillows add just the right amount of color to compliment the room. The result, a fresh new look for a lovely living room and the perfect place to play bridge!
