When To Use An Antique Rug

When it comes to oriental rugs, I always prefer the look and feel of an antique.  However, it’s not always possible to find the correct color, style, or size – especially when you need a large one, as shown here.

The interior of this Charleston parlor (featured in Fall/Winter 2012 Elegant Homes), with it’s beautifully restored moldings, paneling, and antique glass windows, needed furnishings that would complement, not compete, for attention.  A lengthy renovation afforded me the time to have a custom rug made for the room.  I wanted it to appear as if it could have always been with the house and a simple faded Oushak design achieved that goal.

Beds We Love

When you are ready to give your bedroom a new look, finding the right bed can be a good starting point.  From traditional four poster beds to fully upholstered contemporary platform beds, the style of your bed sets the tone for the design scheme.

You will also have a choice of finishes that includes stained wood, painted wood, fabric upholstery and combinations of wood and fabric.  Nailheads, raffia or the perfect artisan finish can also change the look.

Color Me Neutral

After enjoying a well-loved living room and dining room designed in the 90’s, a client requested a more up-to-date look. The reds, greens, and yellows were replaced with warm neutrals. Taking the color palette from her recent kitchen renovation, soft gray hues were chosen for the walls, beams, and trim colors.
