When To Use An Antique Rug

When it comes to oriental rugs, I always prefer the look and feel of an antique.  However, it’s not always possible to find the correct color, style, or size – especially when you need a large one, as shown here.

The interior of this Charleston parlor (featured in Fall/Winter 2012 Elegant Homes), with it’s beautifully restored moldings, paneling, and antique glass windows, needed furnishings that would complement, not compete, for attention.  A lengthy renovation afforded me the time to have a custom rug made for the room.  I wanted it to appear as if it could have always been with the house and a simple faded Oushak design achieved that goal.

A Fresh Take On A Vintage Cottage

FoyerA charming circa 1920′s stone cottage recently became the setting for a client’s new lifestyle.  The cottage has a totally different ambiance than her previous homes and was fun and challenging to transform the vintage cottage into an up-to-date home.

Stained glass windows, hardwood floors and high ceilings were some of the unique features of this home.  The whole house was completely repainted inside and out.  We selected a rich brown for the the fireplace and vaulted beams, and kept the trim and walls neutral.  The color palette for the furnishings included soft blues, neutrals, and yellow/gold tones.

New chandeliers in the living, dining, and breakfast rooms add warmth throughout the house. This one is made of wood and iron and was stunning in person!

The High Point Market is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world.  It spans over 11.5 MILLION square feet of space and brings more than 75,000 attendees.  While it’s nearly impossible to visit every showroom, we pack as much as we can into our stay.  Here’s just a glimpse into some of the new things that caught my eye!
